4 The Foodie Spain

Eating at Puro Pescaito in Malaga

The City Center of Malaga is filled with restaurants everywhere. It can be pretty hard to choose where to go and what to try. My friend and I were pretty hungry. We really wanted some seafood so I checked TripAdvisor. Low and behold there was a high rated place nearby called Puro Pescaito. So we decided to head there.

I was even more surprised it was just around the corner from the apartment we were staying at. It was prime time for Spaniards to head out to eat, a little after 9pm. The streets were crowded and Puro Pescaito had many already inside. Luckily we didn’t have to wait to be seated. We also got there just in time because some moments later a large crowd of people started filing in.

We were handed menus which of course were completely in Spanish. I had my friend with me who speaks Spanish fluently, but some items don’t translate into what he thought. One such item was the shrimp and their sizes. My friend had to learn that the hard way when ordering. The waiter took me over to look at the fish and pick what I wanted. Don’t worry they were on ice, not alive.

The atmosphere was really nice. There were a couple of big screen TVs to enjoy sports. Many people were drinking wine, which Malaga is known for their sweet wine, and other beverages, talking, and eating! We had an array of food come out including octopus, 2 different types of shrimp, fried calamari, and of course my fish. I just didn’t expect my fish to still have teeth on it. I was also surprised I ate it all!

I LOVE shrimp and it was very flavorful and delicious. The fried calamari was good, but even better when squeezing lemon on top. Gave it that extra kick. The octopus was much less chewy and enjoyable then the other I had on the beach in Malaga. It was also flavorful. Of course my fish was delicious and I left nothing but bones and the teeth of course.

The food was delicious and I highly recommend it. The staff was nice although my friend had to start asking for 2 Cokes at a time because they would take a while to come back with another one when he ordered. To the point he had to get up and find a waiter. So if you are ever in Malaga and would like some great seafood and a nice atmosphere head on over to Puro Pescaito.

Have you ever eaten at Puro Pecaito?

Wow I loved the food coma you experienced at this restaraunt. I am not a sea food lover and cannot imagine eating something with teeth still on it 😉
The pics and commentary made for a very interesting and lively post.

    • Holly Dayz

It was a bit odd to see the teeth still there, but it was good.

  • Alice Gerard (@alicesbears)

I love seafood but teeth??? That’s a bit bizarre! The pictures and the story were great. They made me feel as if I were there, except, of course, no taste test, lol.

    • Holly Dayz

Thank you. I do too and the teeth were odd lol. If only to taste test!

  • Felecia Monique

Looks yum. I look forward to traveling internationally

    • Holly Dayz

It was and you will enjoy.

  • aishaadams

I haven’t ever had the chance to visit Spain, but I hope that one day I will have the chance. I am not a big fan of seafood, but I hope they have lots of veggie choices.

    • Holly Dayz

Oh there is plenty to choose from all around. Many places to eat.

  • Steph & Zach

  • Bec

I used to eat fresh seafood as a kid and I love it but have not eaten as much since moving away from the seaside. This all looks so good. TripAdvisor has been a life saver for us in some cities (and sometimes not!) with the girls and finding a place like this to enjoy a meal. We are normally the people eating really early so we have not really had to compete for a table in Spain before but as we are leaving it normally fills up!
we haven’t visited Malaga before but if we do we will be heading here for a meal! Thanks!

    • Holly Dayz

We didn’t have to compete for one either. We got lucky. We knew the place had to be good too because there were plenty of people including locals enjoying a meal.

  • Marion Halliday (Red Nomad OZ)

Looks like a fun place to eat if even the fish are grinning at you!! I can’t believe you left the teeth, haha 😀

    • Holly Dayz

lol very true. Yea I couldn’t believe that either.

  • gokulr27

The shrimps look really delicious. Love the overall ambiance of the place.

    • Holly Dayz

      They were! I love shrimp.

  • Long Nguyen

Oh my dear you kill me when describing the lemon over the calamari to enhance the taste. Puro Pescaito is quite a great choice for dinner and we will have a try when visiting Malaga

    • Holly Dayz

It was so much better with the lemon. So delicious.

  • carrieemann

I love that you get to pick your own fish! Everything you ordered sounds delicious…calamari with some lemon on top is one of my favorites.

    • Holly Dayz

Yea, that was pretty cool. Nice and fresh. The calamari with a squeeze of lemon was delicious.

  • My Normal Gay Life (@NormalGayLife)

Picking your own fish would make it taste all the better to me! I love it! This article definitely makes me miss Spain and the delicious food!

    • Holly Dayz

The food was really good so I don’t blame you for missing it.

  • Ej Nosilla

    • Holly Dayz

      It was yummy.

  • mimicutelips

It sounds like you guys picked a really good place. The food looks good. I forget that a lot of place will cook fish with the head on. I love sweet wines so I would have had a ball.

    • Holly Dayz

I know I am glad I found it on the TripAdvisor app. Even more lucky it was super close to the airbnb. The wine would have been right up your alley.

  • bernettastyle

I would love to try this place. It looks great and I love seafood.

    • Holly Dayz

      You would enjoy.

  • Natasha Nicholes (@NatashaNicholes)

Sweet wine and seafood! Sounds like a match made in heaven! I can’t wait to be able to experience Spain! Hopefully soon!

I haven’t visited Malaga yet, but I loved my time in Barcelona. Thanks for the restaurant suggestion; the food looks delicious.

    • Holly Dayz

I have to see Barcelona. I have yet to get there. It was delicious.

  • Tom

Oh seafood, my beloved treasure of the blue waters! I would totally go to Puro Pescaito! I wouldn’t even mind that the menu is in Spanish, I would just order the whole card 😀 The fish looks really yummie! I think you’ve chosen your restaurant rather well.

    • Holly Dayz

I love seafood too! As long as you remember or ask which shrimp is which size everything else is a breeze to figure out. I think I did too!

  • TheMrsTee

What a beautiful destination!! Spain is very near the top of my list of places to break in my Passport! Now I know one more place I will have to see when I go there!

    • Holly Dayz

Yes, a must eat spot. It was delicious.

  • Anna @ shenANNAgans

Yep, you can’t go wrong with all that delicious seafood on offer. It’s a real hoot sometimes ordering off menus that are not in your language, I have found myself eating completely different meals than I thought I ordered, but I’ve never been disappointing. Great that your waiter took you over to see the fish on the menu, great service.

    • Holly Dayz

No it was so good. It is, when you end up seeing what you get you are surprised. My friend speaks and reads Spanish and even he was surprised. Different countries, different things.

  • carla

Wow, Great food and great ambience! Everything looks delish!

    • Holly Dayz

      Yes, everything was really good.

  • Tiffany

Sounds like a wonderful restaurant! And even better that it was right around the corner from where you were staying! Everything looks great but I’d really love to try the shrimp and fish–great find!

    • Holly Dayz

Yea, that was the great part! Right around the corner. The food was great too.
