$10 Lunch Challenge – Queens vs. Tampa

In the midst of filming Queens of the Boroughs Series with my friend Joanna, we decided to do a $10 lunch challenge – Queens vs. Tampa. Feeling competitve we challenged another travel blogger in another city to see if and what she could get lunch for $10. With our own special guest in Queens we took off in search of lunch. Not only do you get to see who won, but also what you can get for lunch in these two cities!

There was only one rule for this $10 lunch challenge. The bill, including tax, had to come out to $10 or less per person.
Queens, New York verses Tampa, Florida
We had a special guest with us in Queens, NY, hip-hop artist Rain.
We challenged Lauren, a travel blogger from OutDoorsy Diva.

Have you ever eaten at either place? Who do you believe won this challenge?

  • Joanna

It was a close call especially with the size of portions and difference in state tax ????????

    • Holly Dayz

      I will agree on that.

  • thesophislife

This was so cute!! I am impressed by what you both had for less than $10! AND at sit down restaurants. I have never had a fried oyster roll. I will need to add that to my list ????

    • Holly Dayz

Thank you. It was some really good food! I wish I had some now. I think we all did pretty good!

  • Foodfashionandflow

It is hard to get a quality meal for ten bucks these days, but for the amount of my money you got decent meals

    • Holly Dayz

We ate well. Nice and full.

  • kemkem

Good deal! It’s hard for sure to get a good meal for ten dollars, unless it’s Subway or something. I have become spoiled as prices are so good our way. I had sticker shock when we visited the U.S after 3 years :-).

    • Holly Dayz

It isn’t easy to get a really good meal with quality and a sit down restaraunt for that amount. Yea the US can do that to you lol.

  • Tia

This is so awesome! I live in Tampa and Lauren made a great choice. The lunch is perfect there because its affordable and delicious. But your lunch makes me want to make a special trip to that restaurant next time I’m in NYC.
I can’t wait to see future challenges because I love living the full life for #penniesinmypocket.

    • Holly Dayz

We were stuffed after we finished eating. Ready for a nap even. I am glad you enjoyed it.

  • anne

That is such a cool idea!

    • Holly Dayz

      Thank you.

  • RosiEscapes

well since i am a New Yorker, I believe you can find a lot of different foods in queens under 10. cool challenge 🙂

    • Holly Dayz

Depends what you are ordering and from where.

  • Cruise Writer

They both won by meeting the challenge!

    • Holly Dayz

      Good stuff!

  • Karen Wanderlustingk

I’m also from Queens, so I love seeing people discover how fantastic it is. What areas are you planning on next? I hope you do a section on Kew Garden Hills, Jamaica, and Jackson Heights!

    • Holly Dayz

Queens is great, love my hometown! We are doing the Queens of the Boroughs series so we are going to get around to many of the areas!

  • Sierra@TMWY

    Love this idea! Very fun

    • Holly Dayz

      Thank you

  • livewanderfully

After watching that video, I think I’d choose Queens. Will make sure to check it out next time I’m in NYC!

    • Holly Dayz

Awesome! You will not be disappointed.

  • Travel Pockets (Crystal)

I’m from Tampa and I’ve never heard of that Thai place. Gotta check it out next time 🙂

    • Holly Dayz

Yea please do I would love to know what you end up ordering.

    • OutdoorsyDiva

Crystal it’s Sawatt Dee. They are always really nice and the food is always good. It’s in Temple Terrace.

  • Relaxed Thairapy

Oh gosh, it’s so touch to chose. You all nailed it! I don’t think I’ve had anything under $10. I’ve been to Tampa and it’s not particularly cheap to eat there.

    • Holly Dayz

I know it is pretty tough huh lol. It was really fun and filling!

      • Jay | Relaxed Thairapy

I meant *tough to choose. When talking while commenting goes wrong but I see you understood what I meant.
I love food and I never thought to do a challenge like this. Clever idea. Maybe I can borrow this idea but tailor it for my niche. 🙂

  • Jamila

    Great idea, sounds fun.

    • Holly Dayz

  • Tiny Traveller

Cool idea – wouldn’t like to try this in some areas of London, I was charged £7.50 (probably more than ten dollars) for a cup of coffee yesterday!!

    • Holly Dayz

I am glad I don’t drink coffee! That is a ridiculous price.

  • Arzo Travels

It is always nice to find a good meal for little money but I am also a person who thinks good quality might (!) cost a bit, so I sometimes “invest” a bit more in organic food 🙂

    • Holly Dayz

That is actually not always true. Sometimes expensive food isn’t that great and the stuff that doesn’t cost as much is delicious.

  • Jaye

I think all four of the meals look like winners. I am vegan and thankfully there are more places where I can go out and get a good meal for a good price

    • Holly Dayz

I agree. I know I enjoyed my food.

  • Valerie Robinson

I love the whole concept of this! That food looks great!

    • Holly Dayz

Thank you. I really enjoyed my meal.

  • Kiwi

I’ve never eaten in either place. I love the contrast of the two cities!

    • Holly Dayz

It is pretty cool to see the difference and what you can get.

  • Kelly

cool idea and it is fun!

    • Holly Dayz

      Thank you.

  • Simone S. Gray

This is such a cool idea!!!! When you’re ready to come to Brooklyn, I can hook you up. I have a few spots that will hit the $10 mark.

    • Holly Dayz

Thank you! Nice! I have found a few yummy spots in Brooklyn. I am interested in the spots you know of.

  • OutdoorsyDiva

Holly! This was so much fun! I can’t wait to do it again. It’s ironic that we both chose a variation of Asian style food. Next time I will branch out. Challenge!!!!

    • Holly Dayz

Yay I am glad you did the challenge! I know I said the same thing! Another challenge coming soon!

  • Lashonda

I love this challenge!! I may have to this in my neighborhood.

    • Holly Dayz

Thank you. You certainly should check, you may find a good deal and some great food.

  • Kerri Estella

What a cool idea! Are you going to take your quest for 10 dollar domination to any other cities?

    • Holly Dayz

      Thank you. I am!

  • NextStopAbroad.com

haha, what a challenge! 🙂 well guys, if you ever find yourself in Slovakia or Czech Republic (beautiful and calm Central European countries), you might be lucky to have 2 or 3 lunch menus for $10 😉

    • Holly Dayz

I would love to do that.
