Day 2 in Las Vegas
Waking up very hungry the first thing in my head was The World Carnival Buffet at the Rio Hotel which is located off the strip. I feel like it’s a sin not to go there when visiting Las Vegas. I was pretty surprised when I got there, usually there is a long line that takes forever, but…
then I remembered it was the middle of the week. So we were able to walk right in. That was a welcomed relief, because I was really hungry.
Carnival World Buffet
Now the great thing about buffets is that you can try food you never had. There are always some things to try that you could be curious about, try them during the buffet. I know when I am hungry I don’t like trying new things because if doesn’t taste good I will be upset and still hungry. At a buffet, It is also O.K. to put all different types of different foods on one plate. That is what we did, looks crazy, but whatever. Yes, I got four different plates of food.
The one thing I always get when I go there is the popcorn shrimp, so I had to go back for more. They also have a bar, a carving station, and so many varieties of food from around the world. We even saw a couple that were very much into fitness, on the salad and fruit side. We also hit the desert table and we were sampling everything, and going back for a few things. The gelatos were great, mainly the orange sherbet. The Oreo cheesecake was really good too!
We ate way too much and had to sit there for a while. We actually weren’t really hungry for the rest of the day. Actually, I think we went a little overboard and ate just a little too much.
Side note, we found out that the Rio pool area allows non guests to come to the pool/beach area Monday-Thursday for free while walking back to the car!
Usually when people go to Vegas they stay on the strip, but not us…
Our second day we ventured over to the Hoover Dam. It was about a forty minute drive, not too bad. Once we got there we parked and walked up some stairs, which wasn’t too fun in the heat. This part is something I have never done. We went up to the bridge. It was really windy up there. If you are going to wear a hat then hold it down because it may fly away. We didn’t walk the entire bridge, we just went as far as to see the Hoover Dam and then we back to the car.
Then we drove further down to get closer to the Dam. That part I had been to. The cool thing about the Hoover Dam is that you can cross over to the Arizona side. There was a nice, and much-needed breeze. That sun was no joke, bring sun block. We had purchased the spray on kind from a Walmart near the hotel.
Once we were done taking pictures and checking the area out we decided to leave. We weren’t interested in taking the tour. We really wanted to go to Lake Mead and rent a boat and/or Jet Ski. The GPS took us in the wrong direction and we ended up in a residential neighborhood. I knew something was weird when we were going away from the water. So we turned around and headed back towards the lake.
Unfortunately boat rentals and such stop around 5pm so we couldn’t do that. My friend however was able to buy popcorn and feed these huge carp fish and some cute ducks. They were coming out of everywhere. I think she is a Doolittle. Every animal was coming over to her even before the popcorn.
Getting back to the hotel we were pretty tired. After resting a bit and taking showers we decided to try to go to the club inside the Luxor called “LAX”. We got lucky and didn’t have to wait on a line or pay to get in. We got picked out to just come on in. It was a bit early so it wasn’t too packed yet, but enough people. There is limited space to dance and it is pretty narrow. It is a two-story club, but they rope a lot of the sections for those buying a table to the VIP section. I am not really into clubs like that, but I like to go to at least one in Vegas. We danced a little and watched other people dance or whatever it was they were doing.
After that we just decided to walk up and down the strip for a little while. We were pretty tired so this was a push. As we were walking down the strip and I was trying to take pictures a group of guys walked by really hyped up and excited. They asked to photo-bomb a picture I was trying to take of my friend. Turned out really funny. They all jumped in the picture and then kept on going.
We only got as far as the Aria. My feet were killing me. Walking was painful and I was super tired so we took a cab back to the Luxor and hit the bed.
Tomorrow is another day!.
Come back to see what happens next in part 3…
Have you been to the Hoover Dam or Lake Mead?
