When people think of Palm Springs certain things comes to mind like heat, retirees, and Marilyn Monroe. I can certainly say that I experienced that and more during my visit.
Palm Springs is about an hour and a half/two-hour drive from Los Angeles. I drove from North Hollywood. Depends on the traffic because as many know traffic in LA is no joke.
It was a very gorgeous and relaxing drive. Looking out at the Californian mountains never gets old. Also, while driving towards Palm Springs you will see countless windmills. It’s really is a sight to see.
It is also very, very hot because you are in the desert. I actually went to an IHop there that had outdoor seating with mists spraying. Not one person was sitting out there and I really couldn’t blame them. I took a table inside as well.
The downtown area of Palm Springs is very quaint. A lot of hotels and many places to grab an affordable bite in Palm Springs. Great place to see people or look at antiques if that’s what you like. There is also a huge statue of Marilyn Monroe in her infamous white dress flying up. I took the liberty of amusing myself and standing under it and getting a few pictures.
Be forewarned that if you’re a night owl, finding food or stores to walk in and out of can become difficult as it becomes late. My friend and I walked up and down the street and everything was closed and we were starving. We finally found some Italian restaurant in a little hidden area of the street open.
There are a lot of hotels in Palm Springs, one that I stayed at was the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort which was amazing. The grounds are beautiful.
They give you wristbands for the pool area which is gorgeous and so fun. They have a lazy river, pools, a slide, hot tub, and a small water playground. It was relaxing and fun to just drift around and around the lazy river in the water tube. It cooled me off from that hot desert sun.
The room was also very nice. The hotel called it a basic room, but there was nothing basic about it. It had a balcony facing the golf course, a living room area with a pull out couch, and a large bathroom with nice toiletries. The grounds are gated and looks like you’re in an apartment community. Very well-kept up and nice.
Not too far away is an outlet mall. Took a little drive over there and I bought some sneakers from the Nike factory.
There is also a place called Boomers which is really fun. They have mini golf, go karts, rock walls, water bumper boats, and more. It’s a great time. I hadn’t been on a water bumper boat since I was a kid.
All in all Palm Springs is a great get away, even if it’s for a couple of days, which is really all you need.
